Wellington & The Winelands
Wellington is a small town located in the heart of South Africa's Winelands.

Less than 1 hours drive from Cape Town, and with excellent transport links, it is ideally situated to explore both Cape Town itself, as well as the rest of the Western Cape, and is a part of South Africa's 'Route 62'.

However, a rapidly increasing number of enlightened visitors recognise Wellington as their destination!

Fames for its unrivalled hospitality, and the incredible warmth of it's people, it boasts award winning wine cellars and farms, the historic and spectacular 'Bainskloof Pass', breathtaking scenery such as the Groenberg and Hawequa Mountains tower above the town, whilst Wellington is surrounded by farms and vineyards.

Numerous examples of 'Cape Dutch' architecture can be found, as well as a significant number of national monuments including churches, historic buildings, a fortified block-house, and the oldest steel bridge in South Africa, the 'Lady Loch Bridge'.


Hawequa mountains Route 62 Route 62
Wellington is situated at the foot of the 'Hawequa' mountains. Particular highlights are the historic 'Bainskloof Pass', the 'Groenberg' and the 'Limietberg Nature Reserve'. There are numerous hiking trails, offering varying degrees of difficulty. Route 62, the world's longest wine route, is a historic route which runs through the Winelands from Cape Town to George, and passes through Wellington. The Garden route can be used as a return leg. The Horseshoe is a road which starts and ends in Wellington, giving access only to wine farms. It is very popular with walkers, joggers and cyclists, and is outstandingly beautiful.
     
Lady Loch Bridge Boland Stadium Cape Dutch architecture
Lady Loch Bridge is the oldest steel bridge in South Africa, and is named after the Governor of the Cape's wife at the time it was built. The Boland Stadium is located in Wellington, and is the home of the Boland Caveliers. Amongst others, 'Curry Cup' games are played here. Cape Dutch architecture is prevalent in the Western Cape, and there are some particularly fine examples in Wellington.
